Mel Gibson has been under investigation by sheriff's detectives in Southern California after his ex-girlfriend, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva, accused him of domestic violence. Now, there are new twists in the investigation as authorities turn their attention to Grigorieva, and, more recently to Grigorieva's sister.

Gibson and Grigorieva have an infant daughter and have been involved in a contentious court battle over child custody of the girl. Last spring, Grigorieva recorded volatile phone arguments between Gibson and herself and admitted them into the confidential family court proceedings. The tapes feature Gibson yelling expletives, racial slurs and derogatory remarks toward Grigorieva. The tapes were recently obtained by Radar Online where it seems half the world has listened to them.

How the tapes got to Radar Online has been a persistent mystery, but now the Los Angeles Times is reporting that sources close to the case say they may have been sold to the magazine by Grigorieva's sister. If Grigorieva's sister sold the tapes to the media for Grigorieva, Grigorieva could be found in contempt of court.

Investigators are also looking into the possibility that Grigorieva might have tried to blackmail Gibson with the tapes. She sent e-mails and text messages to Gibson that could suggest she tried to extort something from him with the secret recordings. In one text message, she told Gibson that she recorded him because "you broke your agreement with me."
