The twists and turns continue in the Mel Gibson domestic violence investigation. According to The Los Angeles Times, Gibson met with Los Angeles sheriff's officials on Sunday at which time he made a formal complaint of extortion against his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and handed over evidence allegedly proving the extortion accusations. As reported in an earlier post, Gibson was reportedly in possession of text messages and e-mails that proved the extortion.

Grigorieva denies the extortion claims, calling Gibson a liar. She says that she is simply fighting for her daughter and has not broken any laws. The couple is involved in a volatile child custody dispute over their infant daughter. At the height of the dispute, Grigorieva secretly recorded phone arguments between the couple, during which Gibson makes derogatory remarks toward Grigorieva and seems to admit striking her while she is holding their child.

As reported in an earlier post, Grigorieva's sister was being looked at recently as the possible source of the leak of the tapes to Radar Online. Grigorieva denies that any of her family members leaked the recordings. It is still unknown how the tapes, which had been under seal in confidential family court proceedings, ended up published on the tabloid website, but investigators are working to find out.

Investigators are also continuing to investigate the domestic violence allegations against Gibson. They are also investigating accusations of child endangerment stemming from the alleged domestic abuse incident earlier this year.
